Cru Beaujolais is the best of the Beaujolais wines. Cru Beaujolais (or Beaujolais Cru) accounts for wine production in ten of the best grape growing villages in the foothills of the Beaujolais mountains. In an attempt to separate them from the mass produced Nouveau they do not usually show the word “Beaujolais” on the label.
These wines are full-bodied, darker in colour, and long lived. The villages producing this excellent wine are Regnie, Brouilly, Cote de Brouilly, Chiroubles, Chenas, Morgon, Fleurie, Moulin-a-Vent, Saint-Amour, and Julienas.
Brouilly
Is a fruity red wine from the Brouilly region, the southernmost and largest of the Beaujolais crus. Brouilly is often said to be ‘typical’ in regards to Beaujolais. A deep coloured wine, which has finesse and a fruity aromas of blueberries, raspberries, cherries, and currants. Enjoy with white meat dishes. This wine is best drunk when young.

Côte de Brouilly
Cote de Brouilly is a lovely deep red wine which has purple-blue tinges. A full body fruity red wine best drunk when mature (4-5 years old). A very flexible wine which is equally good enjoyed at home chilled for summer drinking, or as serious companion for good food. Excellent with poultry and meat dishes with rich sauces. Try with a fine crumbly goat’s cheese.
Chénas
This full-bodied Beaujolais Crus ages well is dark in colour and has a velvety texture, with a suggestion of spice. There is absolutely no hurry to drink Chenas wine as they benefit from aging, typically a good 5 years, however they can also be drunk young. Enjoy with red meats and game.

Chiroubles
Chiroubles is a light elegant ethereal wine which has superb aromas of the Gamay fruit. This wine is best drunk relatively young. A great summer wine, ideal for picnics on those long lazy days which can be enjoyed chilled during a meal, or on its own.

Fleurie
Fleurie wine is an excellent wine which is very floral in taste, with aromas of iris and violets. A highly coloured and well-structured wine, that is elegant and smooth. Enjoy with red or white meat dishes.
Juliènas
Typically a good structured, deep ruby-red coloured wine, with intense berry-fruit flavours, and aromas of red-berry fruit , peach and cinnamon. This wine can be drunk young but taste is improved after one or two years and is best enjoyed with game, red meats or poultry dishes accompanied by a rich sauce.
Morgon
Morgan is a rich, fleshy wine, often high in alcohol, with wild cherry, apricot, kirsch and gooseberry flavours. Morgon ages particularly well, some wines showing fine exotic flavours at five years. Enjoy with a fine coq au vin.

Régnié
The style of Régnié wines can vary, some have good structure and are full-bodied, and may be aged for a few years. Other Regnie wine are quite light, with good structure yet supple, aromas of redcurrant, raspberry and blackberry give it a cherry red colour. This wine is best drunk young. Enjoy with roast pork, white meats, mushroom-based dishes and cheeses.
